A very square suit

Today this post is dedicated to men, so we are going to talk about suits and how to match different textures. There is a trend now that is as strong as the animal print for women, and I am talking about plaid suits. I know is only one more month of winter, but you still can use it, also the following rules can be applied for any other pattern that you want to use:

1. First of all let’s talk about general rules of how to wear a suit. The jacket has to close perfectly in your stomach and it has to fit your shoulders, the size has to be perfect for you, never bigger. The length of the jacket has to be maximum at the wrist (having your arm straight), also the length of the sleeve has to be just before your wrist, so you can show a little shirt. The pant has to be straight on your body, having a very visible straight line and they have to touch your shoes, never fall on them.

2. To use a plaid jacket with different colors, try to match the pants with one of the tones of the jacket.

3. If you are using a shinny color or a thicker fabric on the jacket, do not use the same one on the trouser. This rule applies to everything that you are wearing; if you are using a pattern on the upper part of your body; do not use it on the lower part and vice versa. Actually, avoid patterns in the part of your body with bigger volume because it will put all the attention there, and that is exactly what you will not want to do. (This rule is just the same for women and men.)

4. If you are going to use two pieces of different plaid design, they have to be of different sizes. The exception of course is if you are wearing a plaid suit.

5. If your suit has a pattern, try to use the shirt in a plain solid color, and a very simple tie. Remember that if you decide to wear a handkerchief, it has to be different from your tie, never use the same color of pattern, that was from the 80’s and it’s boring and totally out. You can match your handkerchief with your socks, or your shirt.

As you can see there are a lot of fun ways to use plaid suits and pants, all depends on your style and how you feel comfortable. Always remember that the most important thing is to be authentic.

Critics’ Choice Movie Awards 2014

As I’ve told you before, this season is full of events and they are almost one after the other. Yesterday it was the Critics’ Choice Awards where again Alfonso Puaron (Mexican), won as best Director for his movie Gravity. I am so happy for him!

But, let’s get into our topic that is fashion on the red carpet. Here is a selection of the best and worst dresses of last night. Some one who is really leaving everyone stunning with his beauty and elegance is Lupita Nyong’o, who by the way, yesterday won the Best Support Actress award for her movie “12 Years A Slave’s”.

Cate Blanchett is always the best dressed and she looked so elegant … and Sandra Bullock looked much better than on the Golden Globes, her Lanvin dress is really beautiful.

Margot Robbie looked amazing in this pantsuit from Elie Saab, the laces are so sexy and elegant. And Amy Adams who definitely looks better with out being so naked, she was very elegant.

This two really surprised me because why were they using the sunglasses? They are so perfectly beautiful … I guess this was just a strategy to catch more attention. None of their dresses was spectacular, but they both looked nice.

Here some nice green dresses; I really liked the Reem Acra.

Here tree good examples of how to dress accordingly to your body, they all look very elegant, but I specially like Melisa McCarthy because she designed her dress and she really knows her body so she always looks great.

And the last one is the worst form the night. She is Adele Exarchopoulos, I understand she is 20 and she wanted to be extravagant but does she really need to use spandex under that dress? It was really bad choice. She wone as best young actress for her movie “Blue is the warmest color”.

See you soon!

The red carpet season

The red carpet season is here, it’s the perfect opportunity to check trends, designs and especially to enjoy the celebrities that we have seen over the year, how they do heir best effort to look great in each event.

Last week it was the People Choice Award, but to be honest there were no amazing dresses or looks, in general, although it’s a quite informal event, this year it was really nothing special.

In the other hand, last Sunday were the Golden Gold Awards, and there was a great opportunity to see the celebrities in gala gowns, some of them were spectacular, some of them were really simple.

The color trend was mainly black, white, red and beige. You will also see some yellow dresses and very few green.

The trend in design was the sheath dress that shows the silhouette 100%.

There was a lot of lace, transparencies and some profound V neckline dresses, that by the way, are not for everybody, you will see later.

The best of the night (my favorites) were:

Cate Blanchett in Arman Prive, the lace was very elegant and the back of the dress has all the back open, detail that make it really sexy.

Ema Watson in Dior, as you can see, it is way more informal than the one of Cate, but it’s still very sexy, the cape in the front and the open on the back with a black skirt makes a total vanguard combination, very fresh very elegant, I loved it!

Margot Robbie in Gucci, it’s a clear example of how to look great with a very simple but very elegant dress, where the spectacular body of Margot is part of the beauty.

Some examples of black dresses:

The red color was used by a lot of celebrities, but to be honest, the looks were not amazing, especially Amy Adams, she had better moments, although she is a great example of how to wear the profound V neckline.

Here some examples of beige dress:

This irregular circular skirt was an important part of many gowns. Zooey dress is cute, but she just didn’t look as pretty as she usually does.

The worst dresses were:

Sanda Bullock, too many colors and a bad cut.

Jennifer Lawrence was a huge disappointment for me, because she is usually very elegant, but this shapeless dress was terrible. Resee Witherspoon choose a dress that it is too simple and has nothing. Kate Mara is a great example of how not to use a profound V neckline, you have to have less breast.

And finally, the yellow dresses: not good not bad.

Regarding the guys, the best dressed were Matthew McConaughey who looked very modern and elegant . Leonardo Di Caprio and Bradley Cooper were very elegant and so sexy.

This are the news by now, but form now until the Oscar`s on February, we are going to see many other red carpets of all the other awards and events, so I will keep you informed and at the end we will do a comparison to define who was the best dressed from the season.

See you soon!

Like a Tiger …

Do you decided to start the year as a tiger?

Well, you are completely ad-hoc to the season because the animal print is on business again, and it could be used in anything you want. You can find every type of shoes and boots with animal print.

Also, you will be able to find the animal print in clothes and accessories, and it doesn’t have to be only the tiger style (brown and black) you can also use it in different colors and designs.

Here are some rules that you have to consider when using any kind of print:

1. Do not use the animal print just to be “in”, you have to be comfortable using it, so if you are more eclectic you can use pants or shirts with animal print, but if you only want to have a little detail in your outfit, try to use it in accessories like belts, shoes or hats.

2. Any kind of print in your clothes will add volume to your body, so you should avoid using it in the widest part of your body. For example, if you have wide hips, then use trousers in a solid color and then leave the animal print for the upper part of your body where all the attention will go.

3. Never use the animal print in your entire outfit; you should always mix it with solid color pieces so you don’t loose the impact.

Enjoy using animal print and if you are living in Mexico it could be good to use a scarf or boots because … it’s very cold here!!!
